"Rachel Baxendale is The Australian's Victorian Political Reporter. She began her current role ahead of the 2018 state election, having spent almost three years prior to that reporting on federal politics in The Australian's Canberra bureau. Her stint in Canberra included flying around Australia as part of the press corp following Malcolm Turnbull and Bill Shorten during the 2016 election, and covering the 2018 leadership spill which saw Scott Morrison replace Turnbull as prime minister. More recently her role has involved holding the Andrews government to account at daily press conferences amid the Covid crisis. Rachel grew up in regional Victoria and began her journalism career in The Australian's Melbourne bureau in 2012."
